Australian Government Grants EPBC Approval for Moah Creek Wind Farm

Central Queensland Power (CQP) is pleased to announce that the Australian Government has approved Moah Creek Wind Farm under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The approval represents a significant milestone for the project following several years of detailed environmental assessment, technical investigations and stakeholder engagement.

The approval follows a comprehensive assessment process that included extensive specialist studies, ongoing consultation with stakeholders and consideration of public submissions. Since 2020, the project has undertaken an extensive environmental assessment program, including 28 ecological surveys conducted over 183 field survey days. The findings from these studies helped inform project refinements designed to avoid, minimise and manage potential impacts wherever practicable.

Throughout development, the project team has worked closely with landholders, community members, Traditional Owners, government agencies and other stakeholders to ensure local knowledge and feedback helped shape the project. Community input has contributed to a range of design refinements, further strengthening the project and supporting positive outcomes for the region.

Moah Creek Wind Farm is proposed approximately 30 kilometres west of Rockhampton and 10 kilometres north-west of Stanwell. The approved project comprises up to 60 wind turbines with a generating capacity of up to 360 megawatts, supporting Queensland's renewable energy transition while delivering long-term regional benefits.

The project is expected to deliver substantial economic and community benefits, including local employment opportunities, procurement opportunities for regional businesses and a Community Benefits Package worth more than $33 million over the life of the project. The project has also committed to ongoing community investment initiatives and maintaining strong relationships with local stakeholders as development progresses.
